Specific objective: S.O.2.3: Promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions

Financed by: Regione Puglia (MA) –This Project is co-financed by the European Union under the Programme Interreg VI-A – IPA CBC South Adriatic

Period: February 2024 – July 2025

Budget (Total): € 189.812,02; IPA Contribution: 157.229,56

Budget (Dhitech): € 48.410,22; IPA Contribution: 38.728,17

The main objective of the project AWeS0Me PLUS (Agricultural WastE as Sustainable 0 km building MatErial PLUS) is to capitalize on the AWeS0Me outputs. The output of the AWeS0Me project was to promote the use and development of green thermal insulating materials obtained from agro-wastes to increase thermal insulation of building envelope is an essential step towards energy efficiency, but most of the materials typically used for the purpose are characterized by high environmental impact due to their production process.

AWeS0Me PLUS focuses on identifying and promoting innovative building materials derived from non-agricultural and non-food waste sources. The goal is to explore sustainable, low-impact alternatives to conventional thermal insulation materials, which often have a high environmental footprint due to their production processes.

The project begins with an in-depth analysis of the current state of the art, aiming to create a list of new potential raw materials. These materials will be selected based on their compatibility with the economic and social characteristics of the target regions.
Following this analysis, partners will assess the main requirements from the civil engineering sector to support the development of concept designs for new building materials derived from selected waste. This approach builds upon previous research while extending it to new sectors and material sources. The materials will be evaluated not only for their technical feasibility but also for their potential application in real construction scenarios.
The project will also explore viable business models to support the market uptake of the newly defined concepts. Stakeholder engagement will be central throughout the process, culminating in a final workshop to share results and promote wider adoption across public, industrial, and civil construction sectors.
